'Real Steel 2' Already In Development

Although Real Steel hasn't even been released yet, DreamWorks has already begun pre-production on Real Steel 2. Real Steel stars Hugh Jackman and a few giant robots that fight each other. Think of the film as a live-action adaptation of the popular Rock'em Sock'em Robots game. The film (the first one) opens October 7.

DreamWorks is moving forward on a sequel to its upcoming adventure Real Steel, even though the Hugh Jackman movie doesn't come out until October 7.

John Gatins, who wrote Real Steel, has been hired by DreamWorks to write a sequel. It is said the studio has received positive responses from internal screenings and its presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. It is quite rare for a sequel to take shape so early, although The Hangover Part II was in development long before The Hangover's release in the summer of 2009.

Real Steel stars Hugh Jackman as a former boxer trying to make a living in the next big thing: robot boxing. He finds an old, scrapped-out robot and rebuilds it with his estranged young son (Dakota Goyo) in hopes of making it into the World Robot Boxing league. Evangeline Lilly, Kevin Durand, Anthony Mackie, and Hope Davis also star.

It is expected that Hugh Jackman and director Shawn Levy will return for the sequel, although their deals have not yet been worked out.

Real Steel comes to theaters October 7th, 2011 and stars Hugh Jackman, Evangeline Lilly, Kevin Durand, Anthony Mackie, Dakota Goyo, Hope Davis, James Rebhorn. The film is directed by Shawn Levy.
