Zach Braff (TV's Scrubs) is in final negotiations to join James Franco in the new Wizard of Oz prequel, Oz: The Great and Powerful.

Disney is in final negotiations with Zach Braff to join the cast of "Oz: The Great and Powerful."

Sam Raimi is directing the 3D fantasy pic, which is a prequel to "The Wizard of Oz" that finds the titular character arriving in the Land of Oz and being treated like a wizard by the colorful locals.

Braff would portray the assistant to Oz, the magician played by James Franco. Mila Kunis will also star alongside Michelle Williams and Rachel Weisz, whose character Evanora is an evil witch.

The script is penned by David Lindsay-Abaire. Joe Roth is producing alongside Josh Donen and Grant Curtis.

Pic is scheduled to start production this July in Michigan, and Disney will release the tentpole on March 8, 2013.
