'Short Circuit' Comes To Life With A Remake

Short Circuit is one of those films that defined the 80's.  Who knew that we would talk about a remake of the film but with Hollywood tossing and turning remakes, it should come as no surprise.

The film is about Johnny 5, a robot engineered to be a Cold War killing machine who comes to life and discovers his humanity instead.

Hop director Tim Hill, who is probably going to direct the remake, talked to 24 Frames about the potential remake: “The thing that makes it so relevant is that we live in this age of robots, particularly when it comes to war. We have drones that do our fighting for us, do all these jobs men and women don’t want to do. And that’s what makes this so interesting--things like this moment in the story when Johnny realizes he’s going to be disassembled and contemplates death, and whether it’s right to terminate someone else. These are heavy themes for a family movie, but I think they can have their place.”

Of course, remaking a film from the 80's, there are going to be a lot of updates, including the look of the main attraction, Johnny 5.

Do we really need this remake?  Perhaps not but that won't stop Hollywood from making it.  What do you think?  Would you go see the Short Circuit remake?  (Look at Johnny 5 -- he is not happy with this news!)
