Review: 'Anneliese: The Exorcist Tapes'

"The shocking account of history's most infamous case of demonic possession, compiled from the actual videotape and film recordings from over 76 exorcisms."

Let me rewrite that plot synopsis. Based on....Yes, BASED on one of history's most infamous case of demonic possession.

The Exorcist Tapes is a attempt to create a found footage style film based on the famous Anneliese exorcisms. Right From the start, this film is obviously not actual footage. Okay...so it's not real, who cares? Neither were Paranormal Activity, The Last Exorcism, or The Blair With Project. Well the difference between those films and this film is the complete lack of authenticity. The film never feels real, therefore your never scared nor drawn into it.

The movie is simple...Anneliese Michel, drinks her own urine, eats spiders, and speaks with demonic voices (all from the true story). She is possessed by a demon(s). So we have a battle between a group of people trying to help Anneliese with medicine vs religion...and that's basically all we get. Long drawn out scenes of people arguing , Audio from the actual case (creepy) thrown in to pad out the run-time, This movie is plain and simple...boring.

The only enjoyable thing about this film is the actress who plays Anneliese (whose name you can't find due to the filmmakers playing this up as a real film) . She gives an over-the-top fun performance (even gets topless) and you'll be wishing the movie spent more time with her. Unfortunately she put all her effort into a SHIT film.

An interesting story...the worst way to tell it.
