'Jurassic Park 3D' Coming July 2013

This was only a matter of time before it was to be conceived.  And I, for one, am actually welcoming this 3D flick with open arms.  Jurassic Park 3D is slated for a July 2013 release.
With Titanic 3D on its way next month and presumably five more post-converted Star Wars films coming too, the greedy trend of re-releasing classic films in 3D shows no signs of stopping. In fact, it's just expanded over to what might be the biggest touchstone of 90s nostalgia beyond Titanic-- yes, they've finally gotten their hands on Jurassic Park. The LA Times confirms the long-rumored story that Universal will re-release Jurassic Park in 3D, now scheduled for a July 2013 release. That's pretty confident scheduling, indicating that Universal thinks a re-release of 20-year-old summer blockbuster can hold its own against new films-- that month we're also scheduled to see Spielberg's new film Robopocalypse, Despicable Me 2 and The Wolverine. Of course, they're probably right. Jurassic Park currently stands as the 20th-highest grossing movie of all time, even when you adjust for inflation, and the interest in the newly released Blu-Ray set for the trilogy proved that people are still pretty passionate about it. Even if you're not at all interested in 3D post-conversions, the opportunity to see the movie on the big-screen again is pretty tempting. If Titanic 3D does well next month, we'll know to expect an equally huge, if not huger, bow for Jurassic Park in 3D. Yes, it's annoying to have to pay extra for the 3D, which if the Phantom Menace 3D conversion is any indication, won't add much to the experience at all. But like a lot of people my age, I clearly remember seeing Jurassic Park in theaters, one of the first PG-13 movies I ever saw, and being completely enraptured. Who wouldn't want to repeat that experience?
