It looks as though The Hunger Games trilogy will join the ranks of Harry Potter and Twilight as having another director sign on after the first director bowed out. Gary Ross will NOT be directing Catching Fire.
Though Lionsgate and Fox had agreed on shooting schedules for both The Hunger Games and the X-Men: First Class sequel so that Jennifer Lawrence could do both films, Gary Ross became a casualty in this whole ordeal.
I have to say I'm not entirely sad about this news. The dialogue scenes were well executed but the action scenes could have been done in a way that didn't make you get a major brainfreeze. Gary Ross has done a variety of films like the horse racing drama Seabiscuit and the satire film Pleasantville so it may be that Mr. Ross just wants a change of pace. I don't blame the guy. What more could you possibly do for the franchise? The film is making the big bucks in the box office right now!
Regardless of who directs it, you can bet that it will be a financial success, just like The Hunger Games.
Who do you think should direct it? I will make another article exclusively on that subject.
