The new thriller currently sweeping the box office is Curry Barker's Obsession, a micro-budget horror/thriller that's defying the odds and doing what very few movies before it have done: attempting to break $100M on a budget of less than $1M. Word of mouth is proving to very fruitful for the film, which is showing rising percentages in its second week.
A few notables in the genre that have reached this feat would be Halloween (1978), The Blair Witch Project, and Paranormal Activity.
Can we expect an Obsession 2? I wouldn't bank on it, but I wouldn't rule it out, either. Barker is going to be incredibly busy for the next 5-10 years. He just wrapped on Anything But Ghosts (which has an excellent premise) and his next big flick is the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre reboot. Every studio with a major IP is going to be blowing him up.
Have you seen Obsession? Thoughts?
