Pretty Woman 2

MrShowbiz.com reports that..

"Happily ever after" just isn't good enough for some people, and that includes the steel-minded folks who are contemplating a sequel to the 1990 romantic comedy that simultaneously made Julia Roberts a hooker and a star.

Uh huh, Pretty Woman. The modern Cinderella tale that wet the hankies of millions could see a revival, according to syndicated columnist Liz Smith.

Apparently the stars of the original — Roberts and Richard Gere — are finally interested in talking sequel. Ditto for director Garry Marshall.

But there's a bit of tiptoeing around the subject of the obscenely large budget it would take to reunite the trio.

Roberts, who has been waging box-office war with Erin Brockovich, is now Hollywood's highest-paid actress. She'd need $20 million plus 5 percent to return. Gere, who seems to be overestimating his celluloid clout, wants the same. Marshall would need $10 million in addition to 2 percent of the gross to helm Pretty Woman 2.

That's a total of $50 million just to kick-start the hooker-meets-corporate-whore classic. Add in production costs, salaries for sidekicks, some advertising dollars, and that's a pretty price to pay just to find out whether the happy couple stayed happy after credits rolled.

Besides, didn't Marshall, Roberts, and Gere already make a Pretty Woman follow-up, a little movie called Runaway Bride? Still, there may be some cash flow in a repeat performance. Pretty Woman made more than $178 million back in 1990. As of Monday, Erin Brockovich had grossed upwards of $122 million.
