Kevin Williamson talks Scream 4

Moviehole has the latest on the horror thrillogy that just won't die. Kevin Williamson talks a little Scream 4 business...

Kevin Williamson’s kept his “Scream 4” script, er, pretty close to his chest but he’s at least shed some light on what we can expect in the recently-announced third sequel to the Wes Craven hit.

Williamson, still writing the script, tells MTV, "It's going good…I’ve gotta finish that baby."

As for the plot, he’s tight-lipped but will say, “The fourth one is an ensemble...It'll take place right now, 10 years later, and it's going to take place in [Sidney Prescott's hometown of] Woodsboro. We'll have our three main characters, and we'll be introducing several more."

(I'd originally heard that the new film would fix solely on Gale and Dewey trying to protect their 'newborn' from Ghostface - who, for some particular reason, wanted the tot's head on a rattle; Not sure if that's still the storyline Williamson's drawing from).

The three characters that will be returning are Sidney (Neve Campbell), Gale (Courteney Cox) and Dewey (David Arquette), Williamson confirmed, adding, "We'll also be introducing a little group, a little ensemble of new castmembers. That'll take us through the next three [Scream movies]."

Williamson says we can expect “Scream 4” to give the horror genre as much as a ribbing as the previous films did.

"I guess I'll just have to be very aware of the fact that we're a '4' and that we're beating a dead dog. I'm going to make that very apparent in the dialogue," laughed the writer/producer, who is also hard at work these days making "The Vampire Diaries" for The CW.

"Come on," he laughed. "It's the age of the remake! And 3-D and all that [other horror fad material], can you imagine what ['Scream' movie-within-a-movie] 'Stab 10' is like?"

Wes Craven is reportedly in talks to return as director of “Scream 4” – but no deal is in place yet.
