Peter Jackson Wants 'The Hobbit' To Be A Trilogy

No surprise here, really.  Peter Jackson, director of The Lord of the Rings trilogy and the two The Hobbit films, wants to add a third chapter to The Hobbit.  Thus, completing two trilogies (cough, Star Wars, cough).  Not that this is necessarily a bad thing, because it isn't.  In fact, I think it's a wonderful idea.
Peter Jackson is looking to return to Middle Earth yet again.  Sources close to the production of The Hobbit say the filmmaker has concluded that he wants to turn his upcoming two-film adaptation of the J.R.R. Tolkien epic into a trilogy. That would require additional shooting that sources say could take place next summer for about two months in New Zealand.  Jackson teased the idea at Comic-Con on July 14, telling fans that he wants to shoot more footage. But since then, sources say that studio Warner Bros., Jackson, producer Fran Walsh and writer-producer Philippa Boyens began exploring the logistics of what it would take to make another movie. Those talks are …

It's Back On, 'Dumb & Dumber' Sequel Could Shoot This Fall

Just days after Jim Carrey dropped out of the highly anticipated sequel to 1994's Dumb & Dumber, co-star Jeff Daniels immediately fired back, stating that Carrey had yet another change of heart and was back on board the sequel.  Now that both stars are officially geared up, the Farrelly brothers announced that filming could begin as soon as this Fall!
A "Dumb and Dumber" sequel could happen as early as September, Bobby Farrelly told TheWrap on Monday. Farrelly, along with his brother Peter, ushered in a new wave of slapstick comedies in the 1990s with the first "Dumb and Dumber" and "There's Something About Mary." This year, they decided to go back to the godfathers of the genre, remaking "The Three Stooges" with Sean Hayes, Will Sasso and Chris Diamantopoulos as Larry, Curly and Moe. Now, with Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels on board, Bobby says a return to the world of Harry and Lloyd is the only thing on their minds. It’s almost 20 y…

Exciting Sequels On The Horizon

The future appears bright for the film industry. There is a diverse array of thrilling sequels in the pipeline, many of which may shock or surprise those who had either given up hope on a sequel to a particular film they loved, or to those who wouldn’t dare expect development of a sequel to be already taking place on a film so recently released.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2

One example of the latter form of surprise, one of shock at how quickly the sequel to the recently released The Amazing Spider-Man is being developed, is the news relating to the sequel of the still box-fresh web slinging original. Development of the sequel is reportedly well underway, with two of the brains behind Transformers having been drafted in to refine the already completed first draft of the script. Sony have announced the release date to be May 2, 2014, meaning it will not be too long before everyone’s favorite genetically mutated superhero will swing his way back onto cinema screens across the world. One sal…

'Man Of Steel' Teaser Poster Is Here

The official teaser poster for Zack Snyder's Superman reboot Man of Steel was revealed at the San Diego Comic Con today.  So far, I'm liking the direction that this movie is headed.  It also didn't hurt to catch the shaky camera phone footage on YouTube, either.

Ed Helms To Play Rusty Griswold In 'Vacation' Sequel/Reboot

Although I would have preferred to see Anthony Michael Hall back in the role, it seems like Ed Helms will be the next actor to portray Rusty Griswold in the new sequel/reboot Vacation.
Helms will play Rusty Griswold, the son of Chevy Chase in the original films. Ed Helms is in negotiations to star in New Line's planned Vacation reboot. Helms will play Rusty Griswold, the kid from the original films, who in the new movie will be all grown up and embarking on a vacation with his own family. John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein are directing the project, which plays like both a sequel and a reboot of the Chevy Chase franchise that began with the 1983 Harold Ramis-directed comedy National Lampoon's Vacation. That film was written by John Hughes based on his own experiences on family vacations. Anthony Michael Hall played Rusty in the original. The franchise continued with European Vacation (1985), Christmas Vacation (1989) and Vegas Vacation (1997). The new project will star…

Lindsay Lohan In Talks For 'Scary Movie 5'

Lindsay Lohan is in negotiations to star in Dimension Films' Scary Movie 5 -- starring alongside Ashley Tisdale.
The “Scary Movie” franchise is getting even scarier by angling to add accident-prone star Lindsay Lohan to the mix. Pictures in the series have previously featured appearances by pop-culture types Carmen Electra, Lil Jon, Pamela Anderson, Jenny McCarthy, Charlie Sheen and Shannon Elizabeth. Sources say Lohan met with Bob Weinstein about possibly joining the cast of “Scary Movie 5,” opposite “High School Musical” star Ashley Tisdale, last week. David Zucker, who wrote the classic, off-the-wall comedies “Airplane!” and “Top Secret,” is co-writing the latest installment of the hit comedy franchise that spoofs horror films and is stocked with pop- culture gags. The movie’s scheduled for release next April 19. Anna Faris starred in the first four “Scary” releases, the most recent of which made $90.7 million in 2006. Lohan has been making a comeback of sorts after being let…

Etan Cohen Hired To Rewrite 'Ghostbusters 3' Script

This is getting old -- really old -- and fast.  But on the bright side, this is the first bit of solid news about the long-troubled Ghostbusters 3.  Sony has hired screenwriter Etan Cohen (Men in Black III, Tropic Thunder) to rewrite the Ghostbusters 3 screenplay.
Who you gonna call if you're Sony Pictures and you want to reboot the lucrative "Ghostbusters" franchise? How about "Men in Black 3" scribe Etan Cohen, who has been tapped to rewrite "Ghostbusters 3" for the studio. "The Office" scribes Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky were hired in September 2008 to revive the blockbuster franchise that started in 1984 with Ivan Reitman's "Ghostbusters." At the time, the supernatural action-comedy was Columbia Pictures' highest-grossing film ever, until it was beaten by "Men in Black" and then "Spider-Man." Third installment is expected to find original cast members Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson an…

Behold The 'Hatchet III' Teaser Poster

The official teaser poster for Hatchet III has been released.  The grotesque being on the poster is non other than the franchise's killer, Victor Crowley -- who looks to be sporting yet another new look.  The poster will be exclusively available at this years San Diego Comic Con.  Hatchet III has wrapped and is scheduled for a 2013 release.

'Hocus Pocus 2' Is In Development

So Disney is finally beginning to development to 1993's Hocus Pocus.  Judging by the new title alone, Hocus Pocus 2: Rise of the Elderwitch, it suggests that this sequel will have little-to-nothing to do with the original film.
So here’s what I got. While I’m not sure if Ortega is involved, Disney is quietly developing plans for a sequel to the rather popular ’90s flick. If the title suggests anything it’s that “Hocus Pocus 2 : Rise of the Elderwitch”, will feature a new cackling evildoer whose been unfortunately let loose again on suburban America. Not surprising, I guess, that Disney would start fresh with Parker now a significantly more successful and in-demand actress than what she was when she strapped on the fake nose (oh, that wasn’t fake!?) and blonde wig to star in the original, and Bette Midler doesn’t get up to much filmwise these days. Not even sure where Kathy Najimy’s been hiding, but I do know she’s significantly thinner than she was back in 1993, so audiences like…

'Oz: The Great And Powerful' Poster Is Unveiled

Behold the teaser poster for Sam Raimi's Oz: The Great and Powerful, starring James Franco, Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams, Rachel Weisz and Bruce Campbell.
When Oscar Diggs (Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot–fame and fortune are his for the taking–that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Kunis), Evanora (Weisz) and Glinda (Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity–and even a bit of wizardry–Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.'

Aykroyd Hires New Writers For 'Ghostbusters 3'

So there are new writers working on the script for Ghostbusters 3.  It's common knowledge by now that Bill Murray won't do the project because Dan Aykroyd's screenplay is "crap".  Now with new writers on board, will this change Murray's mind?  Or will his character even be in this third installment?
"We've got a new writing staff working on it now," Aykroyd said. "It's got to be prefect. That's the whole thing. There's no point in doing it unless it's perfect. So that's what we're up to now."
Aykroyd talks Ghostbusters at WNY event:
