The Ghost in the Shell staff announced the details of the project Tuesday. The prequel will consist of four 50 minute parts which details how Motoko became a cyborg which should be an interesting story to see unfold.
The prequel begins in Japanese theaters on June 22nd and then is being released on DVD and Blu-Ray in Japan on July 26th. There is no word on whether the prequel will be released here in the US but you can bet it will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray here by the end of the year or next year depending on how quick it gets licensed.
