Not only has Danny Boyle returned to direct 28 Years Later, but he's also directing 28 Years Later: Part III.
Nina DaCosta is directing 28 Years Later: Part II - The Bone Temple.
Filmmaker Danny Boyle has revealed that he will be returning to the “28 Days Later” one more time as he intends to direct the third of the new trilogy of films based on the property.
Empire has done a major feature piece on Boyle’s “28 Years Later,” the overall third film in the “28 Days Later” franchise and the first of a new trilogy. Boyle directed 2002’s “28 Days Later,” but handed over the reins to Juan Carlos Fresnadillo who helmed 2007’s “28 Weeks Later”.
Boyle has now returned for 2025’s “28 Years Later,” but gave the director’s chair over to Nina DaCosta for the second of the new trilogy “28 Years Later: Part II: The Bone Temple” which has already been shot and opens in 2026.
There's also a plan to get Cillian Murphy back for either The Bone Temple and/or Part III.
