The second trailer for Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises has been released. This truly does seem to indicate that this will be the epic conclusion we were all hoping for...

'Amazing Spider-Man' Is A Reboot, Not A Remake Says Webb

Image
This isn't exactly anything "new" to anyone who has payed any attention to the development of Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man , but take this as confirmation: Webb's movie is not a remake of Raimi's...just a reboot of the series with a new origin story.   "I don't have a problem saying that word," says director Marc Webb. "It's not a remake, we're not making Sam's movie again. It's a different universe and a different story with different characters. There are certain mythological obligations people have in any story, but it's so radically different in terms of tone and what Peter Parker experiences that I'm very comfortable with the movie occupying a different space." "I wanted to start from a place where it felt like, if you walked into the theatre, that it was the same universe you lived in," says the director. "Which is difficult when you have a giant lizard running down the st

'G.I. Joe: Retaliation' Trailer Has Premiered

'American Psycho' Slated To Be Remade

Image
Since when did movies that were released in 2000 start being remade?  Well, here's one that I know of.  One of my all-time personal favorites, American Psycho , has been slapped on the remake chopping block.  Ugh... Noble Jones, who cut his teeth directing commercials, videos for Taylor Swift and Mary J. Blige, and handling second unit for David Fincher on The Social Network , hopes to make his feature directing debut on an updated low budget remake of  American Psycho . Jones, who was Grammy nominated for his documentary 10 Days Out: Blues From the Backroads , is a Fincher protege who pitched the project months ago to Lionsgate, which holds the remake rights. Jones turned in a script about a month ago, but the project has suddenly become buzzed about because it hit the tracking reports that have become the cornerstone of trade reporting. His take was to tap the Bret Easton Ellis novel and turn it into a down and dirty new version that imagines how yuppie serial killer

'American Reunion' Poster Is A Stellar Throwback To Original

Image
The newest poster for American Reunion is, in my opinion, one of (if not the) best posters for any type of "reunion" or "...years later" movie.  It is a stellar throwback to the original American Pie 's poster/one sheet.  Check out both of them below.

Robin Williams Talks Sequels

Image
Actor/Comedian Robin Williams recently spoke to Moviehole about a few sequels he has been attached to over the years, and let us know exactly where they stand.  Specifically, he talks Mrs. Doubtfire 2, The Birdcage 2, and Good Morning Chicago.   Oh, and a "final" word on Flubber 2... Caught up with one of my favourites from the world of TV (“And look at that, it’s a Ronald Reagan pen, it’s got no point”) and film (“I just want to begin by saying to Roosevelt E. Roosevelt, what it is, what it shall be, what it was. The weather out there today is hot and shitty with continued hot and shitty in the afternoon. Tomorrow a chance of continued crappy with a pissy weather front coming down from the north. Basically, it’s hotter than a snake’s ass in a wagon rut.”) this afternoon, Mr Robin Williams, for a chat (that’ll run here in full in a few days) and got some updates on some of those long-gestating sequels that the Oscar Wining actor and perilously talented com

Bradley Cooper Talks 'The Hangover Part III'

Image
We knew this was going to happen eventually...Bradley Cooper confirms that The Hangover Part III is happening.  And this is what is known as of now... These guys had a couple of years to sober up and it looks like they’re ready for round three. In 2009, when “ The Hangover ” hit cinemas, the Warner Bros. comedy about three groomsmen who lose their about-to-be-wed buddy during their drunken misadventures, made tons of cash at the box office. It was no surprise that two years later, a sequel was spawned, following the exact same premise except this time, was set in Thailand. Since the sequel grossed $200 million, there was of course talk of a third film back in June . At the time, most of the cast have said that they think the next film should be set in Amsterdam. Fast forward to today, and Bradley Cooper has confirmed to the National Ledger that a third “Hangover” could be coming soon. Cooper revealed filming on the third installment should begin next September (2012)

'Insidious 2' May Be In The Works

Image
Sony Pictures has obtained a few web domains concerning Insidious 2 -- and thus, a sequel must be in the works...right?  Not necessarily, but nonetheless, here's the latest... A sequel appears to be in the works for the best cost-to-gross ratio movie of the year “Insidious”. Horror movie fans may have something to look forward to in 2012 after Sony Pictures hinted that “Insidious 2″ is in production, after the company registered a handful of domains like Insidious2movie.com , Insidious2.net , and Insidious2-movie.net . All three domain names were registered on November 28, 2011, through the internet brand protection company MarkMonitor. “Insidious” cost $1.5 million to produce and worldwide grossed $97,009,150 . Last May, rumors of a sequel began swirling around the internet, but nothing definite was ever announced. At the time of this posting, Sony Pictures has not said anything official, nor do any of the domains resolve to a web page. Thanks to Fusible for t

Christian Bale Talks 'Dark Knight Rises'

Image
Christian Bale spared some time to talk a little about this co-stars in 2012's The Dark Knight Rises .  Bale also confirmed that this is the last time he will play the caped crusader. LOS ANGELES – Christian Bale was in a good mood in our recent interview with him. The actor, who can be terse and very serious, was all smiles throughout our talk. Christian refused to answer some questions in previous interviews, but in this chat at the Montage Hotel in Beverly Hills, no such moment came. He revealed new details about “The Dark Knight Rises” and shared his thoughts about director Chris Nolan and some of his costars, including Anne Hathaway (Catwoman), Tom Hardy (Bane) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (John Blake). The 2011 Oscar and Golden Globe Best Supporting Actor winner for his terrific work in “The Fighter” dished about his upcoming two films that reunite him with his “The New World” director, Terrence Malick (whom he calls Terry). He also shared his personal insights a

Joseph Mazzello Wants In On 'Jurassic Park 4'

Image
Joseph Mazzello, known for his role in 1993's Jurassic Park , wants in on the fourth film. A couple of weeks ago we had Ariana Richards, Lexi from “Jurassic Park”, on the Hole Cast for the release of the dino-hit’s Blu-ray premiere. Though she hadn’t heard anything beyond the internet rumours, Richards naturally expressed interest in reprising her role as the computer-savvy youngster – the role that made her acting career – in the long-rumoured “Jurassic Park 4″. Today, in an interview with HeyUGuys , Richards’ “Jurassic Park” co-star Joseph Mazzello said he too wants in on the inevitable sequel. Mazello, who has been shooting “G.I Joe 2: Retaliation”, even went one step further – he’s told Steven Spielberg to put him in the film. I know they are writing it and it’s been developed right now. The last time I saw Steven was at the Emmys and I put the bug in his ear, I have no shame in that! I said, ‘Hey, let me know when you’re doing Jurassic Park 4, ok?’ If

Fanfilm 'Horror Movie' Delivers The Goods

Image
Amateur filmmaker Effrem Adams does all the right things right in his YouTube film Horror Movie , a mash-up of all of the great slashers of the '80s and '90s. With a bigger budget, this thing would be sick ... So I decided to change things up a bit and post his movie in full, in five parts, below...enjoy...

TV: 'The Munsters' Are Returning

Image
Now this is interesting.  NBC plans to bring back The Munsters .  No word on cast or premiere date, but this definitely something that SB will follow as it progresses.  Speaking of The Munsters , whatever happened to the proposed movie adaptation the Wayans were rumored to do? Less than 2 weeks after receiving Bryan Fuller’s script for The Munsters , NBC has given a pilot order to the Pushing Daisies creator’s reboot of the 1960s comedy. Universal Television is producing the project, described as an imaginative reinvention of The Munsters as a visually spectacular one-hour drama. Fuller originally developed The Munsters last season and his was one of very few scripts new NBC chief Bob Greenblatt kept in play when he took over the network in January. Greenblatt rolled the project to get it redeveloped by his team. Fuller’s new outline submitted in September was received well, and his new script was delivered to NBC early this month. Word is that the network envisions

'The Simpsons' Sequel Status Update

Image
Al Jean, executive producer of The Simpsons , recently spoke to Moviehole about the status of the inevitable sequel to The Simpsons Movie ... I had always felt it would be best to wait after the series concluded to do the Simpsons Movie, but when it became clear the show might never end, we decided we had to get cracking on the film. If there is a sequel, there would have to be a script we believed in as much as the first one. At the moment we are concentrating solely on the show. Thanks to Moviehole for the scoop.

Another Writer To Pen 'Godzilla' Remake

Image
This is getting a little repetitive now.  Yet again, another writer has been tapped to pen a Godzilla remake/reboot. Max Borenstein has been tapped to write the planned remake of Godzilla . Gareth Edwards , the director of the indie sci-fi movie Monsters , is attached to direct the creature feature centered on the giant city-destroying and monster-fighting lizard, which is in development at Legendary Pictures. Legendary's Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni are producing along with Dan Lin, Roy Lee and Brian Rogers . Warner Bros. will distribute per its deal with Legendary. David Goyer ( The Dark Knight ) previously worked on the script. Borenstein, who just turned in his script for Art of the Steal for Warner Bros and producers Kevin McCormick and Zac Efron , is well acquainted with Legendary. He worked on the company’s in-development Jimi Hendrix biopic, Jimi , and rewrote the outfit’s supernatural fantasy The Seventh Son . The latter, based on the Joseph Delaney YA

TV: Did 'American Horror Story' Go Too Far?

Image
Thought I'd stray away from the usual sequel-talk for a moment to share a few thoughts I have on a subject that has been the subject of debate all week (and, no, this is not a post about Penn State).  Here we go... Did you catch last week's episode of American Horror Story ?  Episode seven of the first season, titled "Piggy Piggy" started off with a bang.  The cold opening depicted a disturbingly real take on a school shooting.  And while many critics, writers, reviewers, and hell, fans blasted the show for "going too far", or "crossing the line", I commend the show for its boldness. One may argue that showing a graphic school shooting is unnecessary, and there's no point in reminding the world of tragedy, but again, I disagree.  I don't think the show went too far at all, in fact, I urge American Horror Story to keep pushing the boundaries.  If a TV show can show us happy things like child birth to remind us of the joy, then why c

'Taken 2' Adds Luke Grimes To The Cast

Image
Luke Grimes Luke Grimes (TV's Brothers and Sisters ) has joined the cast of Taken 2 .   With Liam Neeson, Maggie Grace and Famke Janssen returning for 20th Century Fox and EuropaCorp's action sequel "Taken 2," director Olivier Megaton has decided to add a fresh face to the franchise, tapping "Brothers and Sisters" star Luke Grimes for a key role. First film found retired CIA agent Bryan Mills (Neeson) heading overseas to save his daughter (Grace) from a gang of ruthless European kidnappers. In the sequel, the tables are turned, as Mills and his ex-wife are held hostage by the father of a kidnapper Mills killed while rescuing his daughter. Croatian thesp Rade Serbedzija is set to play the vengeful villain, while Grimes has closed a deal to play Grace's love interest, who will likely have to help her rescue her parents from the baddie's clutches. "Taken" scribes Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen penned the sequel, which Be

Hannibal Lecter Hungry For Primetime TV

Image
'The Silence of the Lambs' It appears that the iconic literary and film monster Dr. Hannibal Lecter will be making his debut on the small screen -- for an NBC produced show. Fuller is writing Hannibal , a drama series for Gaumont International Television and producer Martha De Laurentiis, which NBC just bought preemptively. Fuller is writing the script about based on the iconic literary and film character Hannibal Lecter against a 13-episode commitment, meaning that the script will trigger a 13-episode series if NBC likes it. (NBC has a short window to decide upon receiving the draft, with a potential release triggering a penalty.) I hear the network first got interested in the project when Fuller mentioned it casually to the network’s new entertainment president Jennifer Salke over drinks. A well-known foodie as evidenced by Pushing Daisies , I hear Fuller was attracted to the dark, sick side of Hannibal, who tends to feast on his victims. Thanks to Dea

Ridley Scott Talks 'Blade Runner' Sequel

Image
'Blade Runner' Ridley Scott, who has been confirmed to direct the Blade Runner sequel, recently spoke about the new film, which is a sequel, yet no returning cast members will appear.  Yep, no Harrison Ford... Film director Ridley Scott plans to film a follow-up to his groundbreaking 1982 film, “Blade Runner.” In an interview, Scott said he is on board to direct a “Blade Runner” follow-up and has been interviewing writers who can help him with the screenplay. Scott says the new project is “liable to be a sequel.” Scott, 74 years old, recently finished shooting the sci-fi movie “Prometheus” and is an executive producer of a new TV series on Discovery Communications Inc.’s Science Channel, “ Prophets of Science Fiction .” Earlier this year, production company Alcon Entertainment said it was planning a new “Blade Runner” project with Scott at the helm, but it didn’t reveal whether it would be a prequel or sequel to the original film. “Blade Runner” devotees m

Writers Talk A Little 'Captain America 2'

Image
'Captain America' Curious as to what decade Captain America will be in after The Avengers ?  Well, it's looking like Captain America 2 will be staying put -- in the present. We talked a little bit before about the boundaries you’re stuck with in regards to the greater Marvel Movie Universe. You guys have been tapped for the sequel already, so here’s the obvious question: What’s in store for Captain America down the road? SM – I think it’s safe for us to say that it’s primarily set in the modern day. That seems to have been the biggest question people have been wondering about regarding the sequel. Most people know the story of Captain America as the story of this man out of time, and because The Avengers is such a big movie, and because [Avengers director] Joss Whedon has so many moving pieces, we’ve been left with room to explore Cap entering the modern day wondering, “What is all this? What’s happened to the world” and so on. CM – We made

Sam in 'Trick 'r Treat' Check out Trick 'r Treat director Michael Dougherty's short film Trick 'r Treat - Making Friends which serves as a promo to FEARnet's 24 hours of Trick 'r Treat on Halloween. Cronenberg Has Written 'Fly' Sequel

Image
'The Fly' Now this is interesting. David Cronenberg has written a sequel to The Fly . Not a remake, but a sequel. Now whether or not this would be a part three or pull an H20 and disregard previous installments making it a direct sequel to the original is yet to be determined. Cronenberg had this to say... "'The Fly' is not exactly a remake, it's sort of a sequel, kinda. Yeah, that was a thing. I've written a script of that, and I don't know if that's going to really happen, but that has to do with Fox." Thanks to Shock Till You Drop for the scoop.

'Scream 5' Storyline In The Works

Image
© Sequel-Buzz The wheels of Scream 5 may be starting to roll a little over at Dimension... Buried within Wes Craven’s answers in a new interview with Arrow in the Head is general word that the Weinsteins are actively developing a Scream 5 idea right now which is a critical point of difference to the project up to recently being in a holding pattern . SCREAM 4 certainly was conceived as the first of a new trilogy. Kevin [Williamson] sketched out a trilogy arc, that was the original concept. I’m sure the studio would like to do the rest of the trilogy, and it seems like the box office – the foreign sales – has justified doing another one. And then it’s a matter of a script that’s worthy of being the second installment. From what I hear, that’s probably what Bob [Weinstein] is doing right now, trying to get to that second concept for a second film. Overall Craven provides an insightful discussion as always, illuminating upon why Scream 4 ‘s aftermath scene was remov

'Scream 5' Is Happening, Says Craven

Image
Wes Craven So it seems that a Scream 5 will happen in the unforeseeable future. It has become common knowledge by now that original creator Kevin Williamson wanted to relaunch the series with a new trilogy in parts 4, 5, and 6. Scream 4 came and went. Box office numbers weren't mind blowing, but the numbers were definitely there to warrant a sequel...or two. We just got off the phone with Wes Craven, who is out promoting the Scream 4 Blu-ray and DVD, in stores October 4th. When Scream 4 was coming to theaters last spring, it was rumored to be the beginning of a whole new trilogy. The sequel didn't fare quite as well at the box office as some hoped. This had many speculating that the popular franchise was over, and that the so-called new trilogy would not play out on screens as intended. Well, Wes Craven tends to think the contrary. He is a firm believer in Scream 5, and says that 'yes', the movie will more than likely get made sometime in the near future.

Justn Lin Exits 'Terminator 5'

Image
Justin Lin has been forced to exit his dream project, Terminator 5 , for something else, Fast and Furious 6 .  Hmm, wrong choice, my friend... EXCLUSIVE: Things are starting to move on The Terminator franchise, but a plan by rights owner Megan Ellison and Arnold Schwarzenegger to put the first of two pictures in production for the fourth quarter of 2012 has forced director Justin Lin to drop out. But borrowing the film’s signature phrase “I’ll be back,” Lin has left the door open to a return if Ellison and Schwarzenegger will wait until he completes the sixth installment of The Fast and the Furious franchise. The Terminator franchise has been under the radar since Ellison’s Annapurna Films spent over $20 million to buy film rights during the Cannes Film Festival, with Lin and Schwarzenegger attached. Lin wants to make the film but simply won’t be available, the same situation that prompted him to withdraw from Summit’s Highlander . Lin has been working closely wit

It's Official: J.J. Abrams Directing 'Star Trek 2'

Image
So now it's official, J.J. Abrams is directing the sequel to his Star Trek reboot... Attention impatient sequelphiles: Vulture can confirm that J.J. Abrams has finally committed to shooting Star Trek 2 . Insiders familiar with the director's plans tell Vulture that pre-production is underway, that the script will be done by month's end and that Abrams will start shooting this winter. While many assumed he would make the follow-up to his 2009 hit, he would never give a date for the project, or actually say for sure that he would be the one directing. In July, reports elsewhere surfaced that Abrams was “moving towards a commitment” to direct the sequel (which, of course, is Internet for “hasn’t committed yet”) but his delay had pushed a nervous Paramount Pictures to give Trek 2 's late June 2012 release date to a G.I. Joe sequel. Part of the hold-up has been that Alex Kurtzman, who wrote Abrams' first Trek with Roberto “Bob” Orci, has been busy editin

Todd Farmer Talks 'Hellraiser', 'Halloween 3D'

Image
Screenwriter Todd Farmer ( Jason X, My Bloody Valentine 3D ) recently chatted with Bloody-Disgusting about the current statuses of the Hellraiser remake and Halloween 3D that he and director Patrick Lussier were in line to do... Bloody Disgusting: So what is the status with 'Hellraiser'? Are you guys still involved? Todd Farmer: I don’t think so. We developed several versions for Dimension, but in the end we never saw eye to eye creatively. We wish them the best and look forward to seeing what they come up with. BD: How did you get involved in the first place? TF: We expected when we came back from 'Drive Angry' that we would jump on 'Halloween 3D'. But they wanted to do 'Hellraiser' first, and we were sort of intrigued by the idea. We’ve done probably three different outlines at this point; we haven’t gone to script yet. BD: Would it be a sequel, or a reboot? TF: It’s not a sequel, Clive’s already told his story. Basically we

'Beetlejuice 2' Finally Happening

Image
Beetlejuice  Finally, Beetlejuice 2 is happening... There’s been talk of a “Beetlejuice” sequel for years – Michael Keaton has said the time is ripe to reprise the Ghost with the Most; co-star Geena Davis told our own Clint Morris that she’d definitely consider being a part of any follow-up, and original director Tim Burton was supposedly, at one stage, even writing the return to an afterlife that looks a hell of a lot like a Warner Bros stage. Now it’s official, there’s a new “Beetlejuice” movie coming. Question is : will Keaton, Davis or even Burton be involved? That we don’t know yet. What we do know is that the film will have a Burton connection , though. According to Deadline , author and screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith (Burton’s “Dark Shadows”) and producing partner David Katzenberg will spearhead the sequel – and yes, it’s a sequel, not a remake (1 point to Warner). “We first got to know Seth through his fantastic work on [Tim Burton's] Dark Shadows, a

'Se7en' Sequel 'Solace' Gets Hopkins

Image
Anthony Hopkins Anthony Hopkins is officially attached to the quasi-sequel to Se7en , now titled Solace . Anthony Hopkins, famous for skinning the innocent in “Silence of the Lambs”, is in talks to front the serial killer flick “Solace”. If the title sounds familiar that’s because it was originally designed as a sequel to the 1995 beautie “Se7en”. The project has been rewritten, and Morgan Freeman’s cop character replaced with Anthony Hopkins’ psychic doctor. Which is funny, because that’s how the project started – with a future-seeing doc. David Fincher, director of the Brad Pitt/Freeman/Head-in-a-box classic, refused to get involved in a sequel to “Se7en”, but New Line carried on without him – - for a while. In 2002 they snapped up “Solace”, a spec script by “Ocean’s 11″ scribe Ted Griffin, which tells of a former doctor with psychic abilities who works for the FBI and is drawn into a unique serial killer case that pits him against a ”formidable foe”. The film w

'Sin City 2' Finally Moving Forward

Image
Sin City Finally, a little clarity surrounding Sin City 2 .  Here's the latest on the long delayed sequel... Oscar Winning scripter William Monahan (“The Departed”, the upcoming James Toback-detested remake of “The Gambler”) has been charged with the task of polishing Frank Miller’s “Sin City 2″ script, according to our hombres at THR . Now this film’s been on the drawing board for quite some time – a couple of years, in fact – but according to director Robert Rodriguez, speaking in a recent interview with We Got This Covered , the hold up is due to the script (Rodriguez is adamant that they have financing). Obviously Miller’s draft needed work; goes without saying, when it comes to doctoring, one can’t do much better than Monahan. If the film gets the greenlight this time it’ll be because of Monahan’s work on it no doubt. At Comic-Con in July, Rodriguez stated that “Sin City 2 : A Dame to Kill For” has a script (by Frank Miller) and a possible start date (“It
