Today we look at a sequel that really isn't too shabby, even with the absence of Wesley Snipes (replaced by Omar Epps).  This is 1994's MAJOR LEAGUE II...

Those Cleveland Indians are at it again! After losing in the ALCS the year before, the Indians are determined to make it into the World Series this time! First, though, they have to contend with Rachel Phelps again when she buys back the team. Also, has Rick "Wild Thing" Vaughn lost his edge? Are Jake's knees strong enough to make it as a catcher another year? These and other questions are answered as the Indians recapture the magic and win the championship "their way".

From April M. Cheek on IMDb

My thoughts:
I'm a huge fan of the original MAJOR LEAGUE.  Charlie Sheen's Wild Thing is the ultimate baseball badass.  This sequel?  It's not that bad.  Omar Epps is a decent Willie Mays Hayes fill-in.

Is Wesley Snipes Returning For BLADE 4?

Apparently Wesley Snipes is poised to return to the BLADE series.  What I want to know is: where is my MAJOR LEAGUE sequel?!
Confidenti@l has learned Wesley Snipes is set to reprise his lead role in “Blade,” the 1998 vampire thriller that made more than $130 million and generated two sequels.

Sources close to Snipes tells us the 52-year-old actor’s comeback after being released from prison in April 2013 (after serving two and a half years for tax evasion) is “looking good” and that he’ll make $3 million from this film, plus a cut of the profits. Let’s hope he remembers to pay Uncle Sam this time. Source: Confidenti@l

ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK Remake Narrows Its Lead To Three

The hunt for the new Snake Plissken in the ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK remake has narrowed the search down to three: Charlie Hunnam (TV's SONS OF ANARCHY), Jon Bernthal (TV's THE WALKING DEAD) and Dan Stevens (TV's DOWNTON ABBEY, THE GUEST).

So do you want to be the next Snake?  Honestly, I think Chris Pratt would be the perfect candidate!

TROLL 2 (1990)

Today's sequel isn't just a bad sequel, but a bad movie, in general.  Actually, it might be the worst movie ever made...the best worst movie.  This is 1990's TROLL 2.

A young child is terrified to discover that a planned family trip is to be haunted by vile plant-eating monsters out of his worst nightmare. His attempt to save his beloved family is assisted by the spectre of his deceased grandfather. Also, there are NO trolls in this movie, only goblins.

From Mike Thibault on IMDb

My thoughts:
Okay, TROLL 2...a movie so bad it's good.  Literally every aspect of this film is bad.  But, you also can't take your eyes off of it.  I'd compare it to BLOODY MURDER.  A movie that takes itself so damn serious but has no right to.  Also, be sure to check out the documentary BEST WORST MOVIE, which chronicles the current state of TROLL 2 love.

Okay, where do I even start?  I finally got around to watching LEPRECHAUN: ORIGINS last night.  And I must admit, this movie sucked.  Bad.  Easily the worst film in the franchise.  And that's saying a lot, considering the installment before this one was called LEPRECHAUN: BACK 2 THA HOOD.

What really sucks is how promising the movie started out -- a nice chase through a big grassy field.  But after that, the movie turned in to the most stereotypical slasher you've ever seen.  Four main characters.  Smart couple, dumb couple.  Prude couple, sexy couple.  Really?

Let's go ahead and talk about the complete redesign of the Leprechaun, himself.  I've never missed Warwick Davis' Leprechaun more than I do right now.  Dylan Postl's Lep looks exactly like the Leprechaun in that SyFy movie LEPRECHAUN'S REVENGE.

Some reboots get it right, some get it wrong.  This one definitely missed...big time.  What kills me though is that there is still great interest in this f…

S. DARKO (2009)

Today we look at a sequel that still boggles the mind as to why it was made.  No introduction needed, I give you 2009's S. DARKO.

July, 1995, the time is out of joint. Two teen girls, Sam and Corey, have left Virginia for L.A. to start over. Sam's brother has died and her family's shattered; Corey's too wild. They have car trouble in a small desert town, where Corey immediately starts her partying ways, where a meteorite strikes a windmill, and where a burned-out Desert Storm vet predicts the end of the world in four days. Sam hallucinates while sleepwalking, young men have disappeared from town, and cars come out of nowhere to cause accidents. Time travel may be possible, but it takes courage and resolve. Is the addled war veteran right? If he is, can Corey or Sam make things right?

From J. Hailey on IMDb

My thoughts:
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't mildly curious when this sequel was first announced.  It's not so much a sequel as it is a spinoff.…

Rob Zombie Has An Idea For Third DEVIL'S REJECTS, But Can't Make It

Now this is interesting.  In a recent interview with Fangoria, Rob Zombie revealed that he has an idea for a third HOUSE OF 1,000 CORPSES/THE DEVIL'S REJECTS movie -- one that would work -- but he can't make it.  Why?  Because Lionsgate owns the property and has no interest in another go 'round with the Firefly gang.
“I’ve always thought I’d like to make another movie, because I love the characters, and I have an idea I think is solid for a third one – an idea that would make sense. The problem is, I don’t own the characters now. They’re owned by Lionsgate, and they just don’t have any desire to do anything. So it isn’t me not doing it because I don’t want to; I don’t have the ability to get it done.” Despite the deaths of the Firefly family at the end of THE DEVIL'S REJECTS, a prequel could very much work.  Hasn't this family been at it for years?

Maybe one day we'll get THE DEVIL'S HOUSE OF 1,000 REJECTS!

Mazzara, the drama vet and former “Walking Dead” showrunner, Ross Fineman and Pancho Mansfield are exec producers. R.I.P. Richard Attenborough

Richard Attenborough has passed away at the age of 90.  You may remember Lord Attenborough as John Hammond in the first two JURASSIC PARK movies.  He also directed the 1978 horror film MAGIC and won an Oscar for his role in 1982's GANDHI.

He will be missed.

The teaser for the highly anticipated fourth season of FX's AMERICAN HORROR STORY has been released.  This season, subtitled FREAK SHOW, will chronicle the events of one of the last remaining carnival freak shows.  This is also said to be Jessica Lange's last season doing AHS (which is a major bummer!).

You also might be wondering why this first teaser is a big deal -- well -- that's because the one released a few weeks ago is/was actually a fake.  So the teaser above is the only legit AHS: FREAK SHOW teaser around.

Learn Why SUPERMAN LIVES Never Happened

Now this is super-interesting (yes, I already threw in a pun), here are two clips from an upcoming documentary which is going to dive into the production of Tim Burton's SUPERMAN LIVES and discover why the movie was ultimately scrapped.  Did I mention that Kevin Smith penned the screenplay?  And Nic Cage was going to star?  Sadly, we will never see this film -- and I am slightly bummed.

Summer Check-up

The Great David's check in on a bunch of this summer films we might have missed before now.

John Landis' 1981 classic AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON will forever be one of the great self-aware horror parodies (basically what 2005's CURSED tried to be).  But in 1997, a sequel came along...AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN PARIS.

The daughter of the werewolf from AWIL is alive and living in Paris where her mother (from the first film) and stepfather are trying to overcome her lycanthropic disease. A trio of American tourists on a thrill seeking trip around Europe manage to stop her from plunging to her death from the top of the Eiffel tower and are embroiled in a horrific but often hilarious plot involving a secret society of werewolves based in the city and a drug which allows werewolves to change at any time... This time there's no need for a full moon...

From Ben Jewitt on IMDb

My thoughts:
Like I said in the intro, it's tough to follow a classic like the 1981 original...even if it is 16 years later.  Don't get me wrong, AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN PARIS defi…

Martin Lawrence Confirms BAD BOYS III Is Happening

BAD BOYS III is finally moving forward.  Long speculated, Martin Lawrence confirmed that the sequel is in active development.  We knew this "official" announcement was coming, since it was released awhile back that Jerry Bruckheimer was working to develop a script for the movie.
“Bad Boys 3″ is coming for you. During a visit to “Conan” on Wednesday night, Martin Lawrence confirmed that a sequel in the action franchise is in development.

Host Conan O’Brien asked Lawrence whether there was a possibility for “Bad Boys 3″ any time soon, to which Lawrence replied, “I believe so, yes. I just talked to Jerry Bruckheimer yesterday and he said it’s real; they’re working on the script, they’re getting close, and it all looks good.” Source: Variety

JOURNEY 3, 4 Find Writers In Chad & Carey Hayes

New Line hasn't given up on their JOURNEY franchise just yet.  THE CONJURING writers, Chad and Carey Hayes, have been hired to write JOURNEY 3 and 4 for the studio.

Brendan Fraser starred in 2008's JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH and Dwayne Johnson starred in 2012's JOURNEY 2: THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND.  And word has it that Johnson will return for the next two installments.

GODZILLA 2 Gets A 2018 Release Date

A sequel to Gareth Edward's monster flick GODZILLA has been given a release date of June 8, 2018!  This already puts Edward's efforts miles ahead of the 1998 reboot.

Seth M. Sherwood To Write TEXAS CHAINSAW Prequel LEATHERFACE

Millennium Films has tapped Seth M. Sherwood to write the screenplay for LEATHERFACE, a prequel to the 1974 THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE.  The film will explore the early years of Bubba Sawyer aka Leatherface.
Up-and-coming genre scribe Seth M. Sherwood has been hired to write a prequel to the original 1974 horror classic “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” titled simply “Leatherface,” an individual familiar with the Millennium Films project has told TheWrap. If anything, I'm stoked that the franchise has returned to original canon.  So essentially, this new prequel will round out a trilogy of LEATHERFACE, THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE (1974) and TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D.

Shannyn Sossaman Boards SINISTER 2, James Ransone To Return

Shannyn Sossaman has joined the cast of SINISTER 2 and James Ransone will reprise his role from the original.
James Ransone will return to his Sinister role alongside Shannyn Sossamon (Wayward Pines) to lead the cast of Blumhouse Productions and eOne’s Sinister 2, which is heading into production next week in Chicago. The 2012 microbudget sleeper hit from director Scott Derrickson starred Ethan Hawke as a man who finds mysterious home movies in his new house that place his family in danger. Ransone will reprise his role in the sequel as a concerned local sheriff’s deputy, opposite Sossamon as a protective mother who moves with her 9-year-old twin sons into a rural house that’s marked for death. MRS. DOUBTFIRE 2 Likely Canceled, The World Mourns Robin Williams

With the untimely and ultimately heartbreaking death of comedic genius and legend Robin Williams (who was found dead at the age of 63 of an apparent suicide), it appears that the long-gestated sequel MRS. DOUBTFIRE 2 will not be moving forward.  Well, at least it shouldn't be moving forward.
Robin Williams had been attached to star in the “Mrs. Doubtfire 2,” the long-gestating sequel to the late comedian’s 1993 hit. Sources say that though no decision has been made on the future of the project, written by David Berenbaum, it most likely won’t go ahead after the actor was found dead Monday. Source: Variety

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES 2 Is Happening, Release Date Set

So the new TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES has just finished its first full weekend and has garnered the #1 spot across the boards.  Say what you will about the quality of the film, but it is definitely raking in the dough.

So needless to say, TMNT 2 has been greenlit and given a release date of June 3, 2016!

For me, I'd like to see the introduction of Dimension X and Krang in this sequel, and two street-wise villains named Beebop and Rocksteady.

I'll just come right out and say it: I really liked the new TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES!  Now, that's not to say that it doesn't have its fault, because it does.  But what I am saying is that while allowing myself to be a kid again, I found myself grinning from ear to ear during a large chunk of the 101 minute run time.

I'd like to take a second to shame a lot of the critics for already bashing the movie.  It almost feels as if this movie was damned well before it was released, simply due to the fact that it is a Michael Bay produced film.  Now, I'll admit, some of, if not all, of the faults of the movie are very Bay-ish, but I'll forgive the man.  Just look at the title guys, don't take this too seriously.  Him, and director Jonathan Liebesman.  The true characteristics and personalities of the turtles were fantastically nailed.

What's a Michael Bay film without some fireworks, eh?  We got them in TMNT, but thankfully, they aren't too over-the-t…

For today's sequel, we'll take a look at a little-know sequel from the early 2000s.  So get to know 2004's RIPPER 2: LETTER FROM WITHIN.

The director of an asylum offers to the serial killer Molly Keller a chance to be submitted to a pilot unconventional experiment in Prague, in the Weisser Institute. Molly accepts, and she travels to the clinic, where Dr. Samuel Wiesser developed a treatment using a virtual world, and Molly and deranged youngsters would be trial subjects. However, something does not work well in the experiment, and when the patients die in their trip, the same happens in the real world. The explanation is a huge twist point in the very end of the story.

From Claudio Carvalho on IMDb

My thoughts:
The original film, RIPPER: LETTER FROM HELL, originally seemed like a FROM HELL rip off, until I actually watched it and realized it was about a girl (A.J. Cook of CRIMINAL MINDS fame) who, in turn, ends up being a direct descendant of the infamous Jack t…

Face It, BLAIR WITCH 2 Wasn't That Bad

Back in 1999, THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT became a worldwide phenomenon, cementing its place in pop-culture lore. And in 2000, a follow-up was released to the world -- and that world was not kind to the sequel.

BOOK OF SHADOWS: BLAIR WITCH 2 was not welcomed with open arms. And you know what? That's a damn shame.

What's sad is that most critics and moviegoers were expecting more of the same, another found-footage witch-hunt. They were most likely let down when they realized it wasn't that. I think what they failed to realize is that the movie was about them.

It was about fanatics who are obsessed with the first movie and partake in a tour of the filming locations of THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT and some weird stuff begins to happen.

Supernatural side of things aside, BLAIR WITCH 2 was more grounded in reality than the first movie. It dealt more with real-life views and ideals on the subject matter.

Yeah, so BLAIR WITCH 2 ditched the found-footage angle and focused more on a straig…

No EVIL DEAD 2, Says Jane Levy

Hope you weren't holding out for that EVIL DEAD sequel that promised and teased back in 2013.  According to EVIL DEAD remake star Jane Levy, she doesn't think it's going to happen.  After all, we are getting an EVIL DEAD TV series.
I don't think they're gonna make it. I mean, they're always coming up with a new thing- now I hear they're making a TV show. I was like, what? [Laughs] I think they just like exciting their fans and confusing them. I honestly don't know, but it doesn't seem like there's going to be an EVIL DEAD 2 anytime soon. At least, not with me in it. In what appears to be an attempt to avoid a run-in with Marvel's CAPTAIN AMERICA 3, DC has decided to move BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE to an unspecified 2016 release date.

Honestly, with all the hype that is, and will be, surrounding BATMAN V SUPERMAN, I find this move to be quite surprising.  I believe audiences would prefer a Bat and Supes flick over ole Cap.  But hey, that's just me...and maybe 10 million other people.

One of the greatest sequels of all time was released in 1991 -- of course I'm referring to TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY.  Twelve years later a second sequel would arise...but could it compete with T2?  Today's sequel is 2003's TERMINATOR 3: RISE OF THE MACHINES.

More than 10 years after 'Terminator 2', John Connor now exists only as a drifter - living 'off the grid', so no more Terminators from the future can hunt him down. Unfortunately, SkyNet does send another one back - and this one is called the T-X, even more powerful & advanced than the dreaded T-1000. However, another CSM-101 Terminator is also sent back to protect John against the T-X. Now, Skynet is patiently assuming control of civilian computer systems, under the guise of a computer virus. John has also met his future wife, Kate Brewster, whose father - a U.S. Air Force General - is in charge of the military computer systems & is leery of up linking SkyNet. However, when the Sky…

TERMINATOR: GENESIS Gets A New Title, Well, Spelling

So the fifth TERMINATOR movie, which was going by the name TERMINATOR: GENESIS, and then briefly just TERMINATOR, is now (and presumably for good) going by the title TERMINATOR: GENISYS.

New FRIDAY THE 13TH Will Have The Hockey-Masked Maniac

In case you were worried by a statement by Brad Fuller awhile back, where he stated that he didn't know if Jason Voorhees would be the antagonist in the new FRIDAY THE 13TH reboot, well, fear not -- Fuller has clarified his quote...
"I didn't know he wasn't in there. I don't know how that could happen, that we would do a Friday the 13th movie without Jason Voorhees. That would be impossible. If we do a Friday the 13th movie, Jason will definitely be in the movie. Or we're not doing the movie!" Source: Movieweb

GHOSTBUSTERS 3 To Feature Female Cast, Paul Feig To Direct

Who you going to call?  Paul Feig, apparently.  And he's bringing a female Ghostbusters ensemble for GHOSTBUSTERS 3.
After years of struggling to develop “Ghostbusters 3,” Sony Pictures is entertaining the idea of a female-driven reboot of the original cult hit that would be written, directed and produced by “Bridesmaids” filmmaker Paul Feig, multiple individuals familiar with the situation have told TheWrap.

While Sony was believed to be happy with the last draft of “Ghostbusters 3” which was written by Etan Cohen (“Tropic Thunder”), the studio has had second thoughts and reversed course, sparking to Feig's empowered take and discussing his rewriting the project from scratch, according to insiders.
