Don Mancini Talks Unused CHUCKY Ideas

CHILD'S PLAY creator and CHUCKY mastermind Don Mancini recently revealed some pretty juicy tidbits regarding some unused CHUCKY ideas and plot scenarios.

One involved Chucky on a train, and another involved Chucky vs. Freddy Krueger.
“One of the ideas that I once had… I just have a whole file of different Chucky scenarios. I probably shouldn’t give this away because who knows, I might end up doing it somewhere, but why not?” Mancini said.

“The notion of Chucky on a train… I thought it would be interesting to do something where you’ve got this archetypal or certainly stereotypical notion of the kid who says, ‘The doll is alive and he’s doing this,’ but the kid befriends an old lady who’s also on the train. Like the old lady is the only one who will listen to this kid, and she’s like, ‘Okay, tell me what you’re thinking. I believe that you believe it and let’s investigate it.’ As the story goes on it turns out that the old lady… and also the old lady has early onset Alzheimers. The…

The INSIDIOUS CHAPTER 3 Trailer Has Arrived...And It's Frighteningly Good

The official teaser trailer for Leigh Whannel's INSIDIOUS CHAPTER 3 has finally been released.  And wow, this looks great!  It's really nice to see the guy who cut his teeth scripting SAW to finally get the directing gig.  Reminds me of Kevin Williamson when he was handed the keys to TEACHING MRS. TINGLE (can you imagine Williamson directing a SCREAM pic?).

Without further ado, here you go!

Let me start off by admitting that I am a huge fan of the original 1976 THE TOWN THAT DREADED SUNDOWN.  I'll also admit that I had never even heard of the movie -- or the real-life case, for the matter -- until it was referenced in the 1996 film SCREAM.  I can remember rushing to my nearest Blockbuster Video and tracking down a VHS copy of the film.  I took it home and rest is history.

Flash forward to 2013.  I caught wind of a remake of THE TOWN THAT DREADED SUNDOWN was in the works from the people associated with TV's AMERICAN HORROR STORY and GLEE.  Despite that, I was excited.  Plenty of time passed and I heard nothing on the film.  And then a couple months ago the first images and trailer was released.  And my interest was immediately spiked.

After viewing the trailer, I realized that this was not a remake.  In fact, it was a sequel...of sorts.  It acknowledged that the first film is a movie, and a copycat killer is on the loose, reminding the town of Texarkana what happ…

CABIN FEVER Remake Begins Production, Using Same Script

Well this is just odd.  A remake of CABIN FEVER is set to begin production shortly.  But that's not the odd part.  Apparently, they're using the same script from Eli Roth's 2002 original film.
Eli Roth’s 2002 horror comedy Cabin Fever is getting a remake, with the original movie’s writer-director Roth returning as executive producer. He won’t have to do much writing this time, though: The plan is to use the exact same Roth-Randy Pearlstein script that was shot in 2002, and with a cast already moved in, it puts the project on the fast track. Shooting begins this week in Portland, OR. I guess I sort of understand it.  A new script might as well just be another sequel.  But on the other hand, it's not like the 2002 film was an origin story or anything.  Oh well.  It should be nice to have Roth back, nevertheless.

So the list of possible directors for the new TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE prequel, LEATHERFACE, has been narrowed to two.  Actually it's a duo.  And they are Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo!  This is fantastic!  These are the people that gave us that terrific little movie INSIDE, which was packed full of intense scenes unbearable suspense!

Fingers crossed that they sign on the dotted line!

Gillian Anderson Talks X-FILES 3, Wants To Be A GHOSTBUSTER

Holy hell, this is awesome.  In a recent Reddit AMA, Gillian Anderson was asked about X-FILES 3, and naturally, we got the same old response -- nothing concrete yet.  But what's exciting is that she wants to be cast in Paul Feig's upcoming GHOSTBUSTERS reboot!

Yes, that's right, Scully wants to be a GHOSTBUSTER!
“OH MY GOD, I just looked it up online. Paul Feig, cast me now! Start a Twitter petition! I’m free!!!!! I’m free I’m free and I’m funny, goddamnit! MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!” Personally, I'm all for this.  Make it happen, Paul!

The new TOY STORY TV special, TOY STORY THAT TIME FORGOT, will premiere Tuesday, December 2 on ABC.  An official poster has been released.

During a post-Christmas play date, the ‘Toy Story’ gang find themselves in uncharted territory when the coolest set of action figures ever turn out to be dangerously delusional. It’s all up to Trixie, the triceratops, if the gang hopes to return to Bonnie’s room. The main characters will all be voiced by their original stars (Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, etc.).

JURASSIC WORLD Poster Released, The Park Is Open June 12

The first teaser poster for JURASSIC WORLD has it the net.  I say teaser, but this may as well end up being the final theatrical one sheet as well, given all the other posters in the series use this motif.  Anyway, here it is.  "The park is open June 12"...

Justin Long Offers JEEPERS CREEPERS 3 Update

Over the weekend, Justin Long participated in a Reddit AMA.  During the event, Long was asked about the status of JEEPERS CREEPERS 3, in which he revealed a few tidbits.
"There is a script (it’s called ‘Jeepers Creepers: Cathedral’),” Long reveals to the AMA crowd. “Gina [Philips] plays the lead in it. It’s been tough getting off the ground, financially, unfortunately. According to Victor, I do get my hands on a flashback.” So there it is.  Still in the cards.  Long will return for a flashback.  Funding is the only this stopping this.  Should have been fan-funded.  It'd already be done.

The third DAVINCI CODE movie, INFERNO, has changed its release date from December 18, 2015 to October 4, 2016.  Now it's no surprise that this occurred, considering that STAR WARS EPISODE VII is expected to dominate the box office that week.

I don't quite understand why the delay is so long, but oh well.  I loved THE DAVINCI CODE, I thought ANGELS & DEMONS was so-so, but I'll definitely check out INFERNO.

Gone Girl in Gotham

We have the whole Crew together for tonight, we review Gone Girl, introduce our new segment beer corner, and talk Gotham!

Okay, so this isn't technically a sequel, but it does take place present-day, and it does acknowledge the events of the town of Sleepy Hollow circa 1799 -- so I think of this little gem as an unofficial sequel to Tim Burton's 1999 SLEEPY HOLLOW -- this is 2004's THE HOLLOW.

Restless spirits stir this Hollow's Eve, beckoning Ian Cranston, the last blood relative of Ichabod Crane, back to Sleepy Hollow. Thundering hooves unleash a wave of bone-chilling screams as the ghost of the Headless Horseman rides again! Ian must try to save the town and his girlfriend, Karen and determine whether the sword-wielding stalker is their clownish classmate, Brody in costume, or the dark rider himself. If it's truly the Headless Horseman... how do you kill what's already dead?

My thoughts:
Once again, I cannot tell a lie...I love THE HOLLOW.  I mean, it's miles behind Burton's SLEEPY HOLLOW, but it's fun in its own right.  I always a fa…

TV: UNCLE BUCK Series On The Way...Again

So UNCLE BUCK is gong to try to be a TV show one more time.  ABC has picked up the John Candy starrer for series.  CBS originally optioned the sitcom in 1990 and it ran for one season.  I see this lasting maybe one season again.
The nostalgia theme among broadcast comedy executives this season continues with another half-hour project based on a 1980s movie. ABC has put into development Uncle Buck, a multi-camera comedy based on the classic John Hughes film starring John Candy. The project hails from Universal TV, whose feature sibling produced the movie, and Will Packer Prods., the company of feature producer Will Packer (the Ride Along and Think Like A Man franchises). Something like this could work if done in the vein of ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT -- please no live studio audience.

Here's the original intro for the 1990 show to give you an idea on why it only lasted a season...

William Shatner Will Return For STAR TREK 3

This ought to put a big smile on the faces of Trekkies everywhere.  William Shatner, the original James T. Kirk, will return in STAR TREK 3.  He will presumably be playing an older version of the character currently occupied by Chris Pine.  This same scenario will work for Leonard Nimoy and Zachary Quinto.
...a studio insider has told TheWrap that a Shatner cameo is planned, there's just no deal yet since the “Star Trek 3” script has yet to be finalized. A meeting with Orci is expected to be put on the books shortly.

Badass Digest elaborated on its original report, saying that Shatner would be sharing a scene with the current Kirk, Chris Pine, as well as Zachary Quinto and the original Spock, Leonard Nimoy Source: TheWrap

THE PURGE 3 Confirmed, James DeMonaco To Direct

Thanks to THE PURGE: ANARCHY reaching $110M in box office sales, a third film as been given the greenlight.  So, needless to say, expect THE PURGE 3 sometime in the next year and a half.
After the sequel The Purge: Anarchy surpassed the original film’s $91 million worldwide gross on its way to $110 million, Universal, Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes have begun development on a third installment of the fright film. Small wonder this is happening; the two films had a combined budget of $12 million, and together have grossed $200 million worldwide. DeMonaco, who wrote and directed the first two, will write the third with an eye to direct his storyline about a land where one night of the year, murder is legal and terrible things happen those unlucky enough to not be locked up tight in their homes. TV: The SCREAM TV Series Missing One Vital Piece

Some news broke regarding the SCREAM TV series that's happening over on MTV...and it may disappoint you.  A lingering question about the show from day one has always been, "Will Ghostface be in it?"  Well, that question was finally answered.

In speaking with, Fun World President R.J. Torbert (Fun World holds the license for the Ghostface image) dropped the answer.
To answer your question regarding the SCREAM T.V. SERIES. Please note, that I had been in communication with TWC regarding this and they have informed me, that as of now, and during the initial launch that GHOST FACE® is not involved in the new format. They also indicated that because of this direction, it does not mean, that Ghost Face® will not be involved at a later date. So, there is still a question , to the question. However, as of now, there is no involvement.

I’m telling you now, as we get closer to Halloween, because of the many inquiries, we have had from our RETAILERS, as w…

FRIDAY THE 13TH: THE FINAL CHAPTER was aimed to be the last in the franchise, Jason's final demise.  But that was not to be the case, tearing a page from the book of HALLOWEEN III, 1985 saw FRIDAY THE 13TH PART V: A NEW BEGINNING!

10 years after killing the goalie hockey-masked killer Jason Voorhees, Tommy Jarvis has grown up in various mental hospitals unable to get over the nightmares about Jason's return. When Tommy is sent to a rural halfway house in California for mentally disturbed teenagers, a series of grisly murders begin anew as another hockey-masked killer begins killing off all people at and around the residence. Has Jason returned from the dead to re-start his killing spree? Has Tommy decided to take over the reign of Jason, or has someone else?

My thoughts:
Look, let's be straight with each other.  I love A NEW BEGINNING.  Love it.  Every bit of it.  It's everything the '80s slasher genre was about wrapped into one movie…

ZOMBIELAND 2 Finally Moving Forward, Fleischer To Return

Remember that news from a few months ago that a ZOMBIELAND 2 has been scrapped in favor of a TV show?  Well, I sort of do (there hasn't been any movement on the project since casting), but appears that Sony is pulling another 180 on us, and has decided to go back to the sequel route.

I have one thing to say about this: HELL YEAH!

I am a huge fan of the first ZOMBIELAND and was never really on board the TV show -- so with the news that a sequel is being fast-tracked with Reuben Fleischer set to return to direct, what's not to get excited about?

No word on whether the original stars will return or not, but here's to hoping they find the time!
Sony Pictures looks to be getting more serious about mounting another installment of Zombieland. Studio just hired Dave Callaham to write the sequel under the supervision of Ruben Fleischer, who’ll return to direct. Callaham’s script Barrow became The Expendables, and his recent credits include Legendary’s revival of Godzilla, and most…

Finally Watched The HALLOWEEN H20 Workprint

Just some quick thoughts regarding the H20 workprint...
I finally got around to watching the HALLOWEEN H20 workprint that I've had lying around for going on seven years now.  First impression?  The music/score in this print is awesome!  Why oh why was the majority of the music replaced with the SCREAM score?  John Ottman's score was incredible (although, I did notice that he borrowed a little bit of the I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER score).

But that's okay, because Ottman's score really brought H20 to life.  That, and viewing the majority of the movie with the KNB mask is like an all-new experience.  Hell, just look at how much better the kitchen scene would have looked without that CGI mess.
I just can't stress enough how much better HALLOWEEN H20 could have -- and should have -- been.  I mean, it's a solid film as is, but it could have been that "epic 20 year reunion" that they were striving for.

I almost feel that Dimension Films doesn't kno…

The world was first introduced to the pint-sized LEPRECHAUN in 1993, and after two sequels, it seemed that maybe the franchise had ran out of steam -- that is, until 1996, when that little bastard was shot into the cosmos in LEPRECHAUN 4: IN SPACE!

On a distant planet, a power hungry Leprechaun kidnaps a Dominian princess, Princess Zarina, and plans to make himself king, but not if a bumbling brigade of space marines have anything to say about it. Their commander is a mad scientist by the name of Dr. Mittenhand, who's half machine thanks to one of his "experiments". Once on the planet, Leprechaun is blown up, but quickly is reborn through one of the marines (ala Alien) and wreaks havoc aboard the ship, meanwhile Dr. Mittenhand plans to use the princess for his experiments to make himself whole again. But now, after many of the marines are killed, Leprechaun turns Dr. Mittenhand into a grotesque monster and plans to blow up the ship. The remaining marines have …

TV: RUSH HOUR Also Getting The Remake Series Treatment

Yesterday we learned that the beloved BIG was getting a remake TV series, and today, we've learned that RUSH HOUR is getting the same re-do.

We are in a golden age of TV shows based on movies.  Don't hate.  Just soak it in.
A big series project is about to hit the markeplace — an hourlong action comedy based on the blockbuster movie franchise Rush Hour. I’ve learned that Warner TV has closed deals for the project, which will be co-written/executive produced by one of studio’s top showrunners, Bill Lawrence. The movie franchise’s director Brett Ratner and producer Arthur Sarkissian will serve as executive producers. Source: Deadline
