Image
FURIA is coming -- the fourth RIDDICK movie.  Also, Diesel is slated to return to the XXX franchise in XXX: RETURN OF XANDER CAGE. One Race, founded in 1995 by writer, director, producer and actor Diesel, has produced the four highest-grossing films in the seven film “Fast” franchise – Furious 7, Fast and Furious 6, Fast Five as well as Fast & Furious. TMNT: OUT OF THE SHADOWS Trailer Is Here

Image
Check out the trailer for TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: OUT OF THE SHADOWS now... My initial thought?  This looks far better than the first movie.  It appears that they've corrected the mishandlings from the first go-around.  And Bebop and Rocksteady!  Dimension X! What do you think?

Kevin Bacon Returns To TREMORS In New TV Series

Image
Well this cool.  Kevin Bacon is returning to world of TREMORS in a new TV series being developed by Blumhouse. Universal Cable Productions and Blumhouse Productions are partnering up to develop a TREMORS television series that will bring Kevin Bacon back to the fictional town of Perfection, Nevada, reprising his role as Valentine McKee (he'll also executive produce the series for good measure). No network has committed yet, as the project is currently being shopped around, but several bidders have jumped into the fray in the hopes of securing the show. This would be Bacon's first time back with anything TREMORS, having never shown up in any of the sequels or the series that aired on Sci-Fi back in 2003. What do you think? Source: JoBlo

SNOWPIERCER Is Becoming A TV Series

Image
So, yeah, SNOWPIERCER is going to be a TV series.  Who saw this coming? According to The Hollywood Reporter, it appears that the world of the titular grandiose, perpetually-running, Kafkaesque, society-housing locomotive of Snowpiercer will be chugging itself along to the realm of the small screen. Marty Adelstein of Tomorrow Studios is in the process of adapting the Snowpiercer television series. What do you think? Source: Den of Geek Thanks to Kilmer Switch for the heads up!

TV: HEY ARNOLD! Movie In The Works At Nickelodeon

Image
Hey, guess what?  Nickelodeon is trying to relaunch some of their beloved classic shows -- and they're kicking the attempt off with a HEY ARNOLD! TV movie!  Will today's kids relate to the football-headed hero?  Who knows.  But I'll be watching, that's for sure. The Viacom-owned kids’ outlet is developing a new TV movie based on “Hey Arnold!,” the animated series that ran between 1996 and 2004 and focused on a fourth-grader with an oblong noggin who lived with his grandparents in a boarding house. The TV movie will feature a storyline that picks up where the original series ended and resolves unanswered plotlines–including the whereabouts of Arnold’s parents, long missing from the program. Executives at the network declined to offer a specific date for when the new content might be ready or air. What do you think? MTV tried a similar thing with BEAVIS AND BUTTHEAD a couple years ago and it failed (although the episodes were awesome). Source: Variety

Behold, The ZOOLANDER 2 Trailer Is Here

Hey!  The trailer for ZOOLANDER 2 has finally arrived!  Well, "2oolander," as the trailer puts it. Anyway, this actually looks...good. So what do you think?

FRIDAY THE 13TH PART VII: THE NEW BLOOD (1988)

Image
At the end of Part VI, where we last left Jason Voorhees, he was chained to the bottom of Crystal Lake.  But now, something has brought his back.  Today's sequel is 1988's FRIDAY THE 13TH PART VII: THE NEW BLOOD. Breakdown: Lying dormant at the bottom of Camp Crystal Lake, Jason Voorhees is released from his watery grave by a telekinetic girl. And so the killing begins again. Can she use her powers to stop Jason, or is he back for good? From Michael Silva on IMDb My thoughts: THE NEW BLOOD will always hold a special place in my heart.  For the longest time, it was favorite in the franchise.  That has since changed, but I'll always remember the first time I saw Jason stand up out of the lake and his spine was exposed.  Classic!  Still a cool flick, but just doesn't do it for me anymore. A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 4: THE DREAM MASTER (1988)

Image
Today's sequel is one of the more underrated entries in the A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET franchise.  This is 1988's A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 4: THE DREAM MASTER... Breakdown Following up the previous Nightmare film, the dream demon Freddy Krueger is resurrected from his apparent demise, and rapidly tracks down and kills all three of the surviving Elm Street kids. However, Kristen (who has the ability to draw others into her dreams) wills her special ability to her friend Alice before her demise. Afterwords, Alice soon realizes that Freddy is taking advantage of that unknown power she now wields to pull a new group of teenage children into his foul domain. From David Thiel on IMDb My thoughts Robert Englund said it best.  NIGHTMARE 4 is the MTV edition of the NIGHTMARE series.  And I couldn't agree more.  A solid follow-up to DREAM WARRIORS, wouldn't you say? Billy Bob Thornton Returning For BAD SANTA 2

Image
Well, it's official now.  Billy Bob Thornton is returning for BAD SANTA 2.  That should put smiles on all your faces. At least we now know that this sequel isn't going the way of JINGLE ALL THE WAY 2 and KINDERGARTEN COP 2 (thank god!). Billy Bob Thornton is returning, but other than that details are light. No word on Zwigoff's involvement (if he's involved at all) or if anybody else will be coming back. Thornton killed it in the movie, but you can't undersell just how good Tony Cox was as his foul-mouthed elf sidekick. What do you think? Source: Ain't It Cool News

First Solo Affleck BATMAN Flick Might Have Its Arc

Image
The next solo BATMAN movie starring Ben Affleck may have its story arc, according to a few sources. There are a whole range of fairly well-known Bat-villains to choose from for Ben Affleck’s solo debut as the Capes Crusader, but according to JoBlo, the powers-that-be are hitting Bruce Wayne where it hurts. The Red Hood had been around for over half-a-century before Judd Winick’s “Under The Hood” arc about 10 years ago, but that was the one to establish that Jason Todd, Batsy’s former sidekick long believed to be dead, had taken up the mantle of the murderous vigilante. Apparently, this is the story that Affleck and Geoff Johns are adapting for the next Batman flick, which also features The Joker, Talia al’Ghul, and another former Robin, Dick Grayson a.k.a. Nightwing. What do you think? Source: Ain't It Cool News

WORLD WAR Z 2 Has Found Its Latest Writer

Image
Dennis Kelly of UTOPIA fame has been tapped to pen the latest draft for WORLD WAR Z 2. Dennis Kelly, the creator of the buzzy British show Utopia, has been enlisted for the latest draft of the Brad Pitt starrer. J.A. Bayona is squarely on board to direct, though rumors surfaced recently that his involvement was on thin ice after being eyed to direct the Jurassic World follow-up. Sources say there was little Bayona could do given that he has a holding deal for World War Z 2, but the Jurassic World 2 overtures helped light a flame under Paramount to keep Bayona happy and get a new script in motion with the fanboy-friendly writer. Skydance Productions is co-producing and co-financing the film. What do you think? Source: The Hollywood Reporter

HORROR ICON: INSIDE MICHAEL'S MASK WITH TONY MORAN Documentary Teaser Is Here

Image
Just in time for Halloween, the teaser trailer for the new documentary HORROR ICON: INSIDE MICHAEL'S MASK WITH TONY MORAN has been released. For those who are unaware, Tony Moran played Michael Myers in the original 1978 HALLOWEEN -- but there's a catch, Moran only portrayed the unmasked Myers towards the climax of the film (Nick Castle played Myers for the majority). Check out the teaser below... What do you think?

TV: ASH VS. EVIL DEAD Renewed For Season 2

Image
The first season of Starz's ASH VS. EVIL DEAD hasn't even debuted yet -- and a second season has already been granted! It’ll be a double celebration tonight on Hollywood Boulevard for director/executive producer Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell, Lucy Lawless and the rest of the Ash Vs. Evil Dead gang. Not only will they be whooping it up at the Starz series’ red-carpet premiere at the Chinese Theater with a performance by Iggy Pop, but they’ll also probably be pulling the chainsaw cord in joy over being picked up for a second season. Sara Canning Joins WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES

Image
The new APES sequel, WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES, has added a new cast member: Sara Canning.  Now let's get apey. The simian army’s ranks continue to swell, as Hell On Wheels actress Sara Canning has joined the cast of War For The Planet Of The Apes. She’s set to play a new ape character — though, as is par for the course with the production, details about her character and the role she’ll play have not been revealed. The film does, however, pick up after the events of 2014’s Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, and sees returning star Andy Serkis as Caesar joined by Gabriel Chavarria, Woody Harrelson, Steve Zahn and the recently announced Aleks Paunovic. Happy with this casting choice?  You should be. Source: Deadline

Paul King Returns For PADDINGTON 2

Image
Paul King, the writer/director of PADDINGTON, will be returning to those same roles for PADDINGTON 2. It’s official: Paul King will return to write and direct the sequel to smash hit Paddington, Deadline can confirm. The filmmaker, who had been courted by both producer David Heyman and financier-distributor StudioCanal ever since the first film proved a critical and commercial success earlier this year, will work with Simon Farnaby on the story to the second in what all involved hope becomes a long-running franchise. I'll be honest, I didn't see the first movie, but I'm sure this will interest some. Source: Deadline

CHILD'S PLAY 3 (1991)

Image
Holy hell!  A new Movie Sequel-a-Day post!  Shit, it's about time.  Today's sequel is one that has gathered its fanbase over the years, but has the good-fortune of being associated with one of horror's elite franchises.  This is 1991's CHILD'S PLAY 3. Breakdown: It's been eight years since the events in the second film, we now see that Andy is a teenager who has been enrolled in a military school. Play Pals Toy Company decides to re-release its Good Guys line, feeling that after all this time, the bad publicity has died down. As they re-used old materials, the spirit of Charles Lee Ray once again comes to life. In his search for Andy, Chucky falls into the hands of a younger boy, and he realizes that it may be easier to transfer his soul into this unsuspecting child. Andy is the only one who knows what Chucky is up to, and it's now up to him to put a stop to it. From Phil Fernando on IMDb My thoughts: Growing up, this is the one CHILD'S PLAY f

J.J. Abrams On The Lack Of Luke In STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Media

Image
Recently speaking with the Associated Press, STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS director J.J. Abrams was asked about the absence of Luke Skywalker in all of the media for the latest movie.  In fact, there hasn't been any sign of Luke. J.J. kept his answer simple: It's no accident. Fan theories suggest that Luke either has undergone a physical transformation -- or he's joined the dark side.  Either way, the lack of Luke has been a calculated step. What do you think?

New Jared Leto "Joker" Image From SUICIDE SQUAD

Unless you've been living under a rock, there's a new photo of Jared Leto as the Joker in the upcoming SUICIDE SQUAD making the rounds -- he's gracing the cover of Empire. Behold... Thoughts?  I'm not against it.

Where Does ROGUE NATION Stand In The MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE Franchise?

Image
While not as iconic as the James Bond series or as lucrative as the Marvel franchise, the Tom Cruise-led Mission: Impossible films do generate steady interest among moviegoers. Cruise is Ethan Hunt, leader of a group of secret government agents known as the Impossible Missions Force (IMF). The team performs covert operations often involving lots of explosions, thrilling chases and countless encounters with bad guys trying to prevent them from succeeding. The only connection to the TV series is Jim Phelps (with Jon Voight replacing Peter Graves), who's killed off in the first movie. As with all movie franchises, individual films within the "MI" series rate higher than others, as evidenced by the following ranking of the five "Mission: Impossible" films from worst to best: Mission: Impossible II (2000) Director John Woo turns the second "MI" installment (available via Netflix ) into a bunch of action scenes with something sorta res

Will The Latest TERMINATOR Live Up To The Hype?

Image
The Terminator franchise has spawned several incarnations in almost every media form. Everything from films and TV to video games and comics has a little piece of The Terminator to call its very own. While there have been a lot of ups and downs with the film franchise, the buzz and hype around the fifth movie installment TerminatorGenisys is going strong. Genisys does not simply try to cash in on the Terminator 's popularity but instead pays homage to the original films ( perhapsa bit too heavily ) while carving its own path. The newest film takes us back to 1984 and begins to rewrite Terminator history right off the bat. John Connor sends trusted friend Kyle Reese back to save his mother but finds that she has been raised and trained by another Terminator since age 9. Honestly, it would be tough to go into much more detail about the plot here, but suffice it to say that everything we know about the Terminator universe from the previous four films and the cult favo

BLOODY MURDER 2: CLOSING CAMP (2003)

Image
Okay, it's been, like, forever since we posted a Movie Sequel-a-Day article.  So, let's break that silence, shall we?  For today, let's take a look at a DTV camp slasher from 2003 that many say is far superior than its predecessor.  This is BLOODY MURDER 2: CLOSING CAMP. Breakdown: Trevor Moorhouse returns! Coming to Placid Pines is difficult for Tracy, who's brother, Jason, was one of Trevor's victims near the end of the original. When Tracy's nightmares begin to come true as one by one the counselors are murdered. Someone is hunting them through the pitch-black Forest and is determined to kill them all. From Wallace Entertainment on IMDb My thoughts: I'd be totally lying if I said I didn't absolutely ADORE this movie.  But hey, I'm a big fan of the original as well.  What's not to love about the "fictitious local psychopath" Trevor Moorehouse?  I love this series so much, that I even started the Bloody Murder Films website

Michael Myers Will Be Back, HALLOWEEN RETURNS Is A Go, Plot Revealed

Image
So the upcoming HALLOWEEN reboot is officially on the horizon.  And we've now learned that the film will be called HALLOWEEN RETURNS. Here is what we know as of know... Titled “Halloween Returns”, the new project will be a standalone film set to reintroduce audiences to Michael Myers years after his initial rampage. “Halloween Returns” will pit a new group of Haddonfield youngsters against Myers. The now 18-year-old child of one of Myers’ victims plays a central role along with the child of a cop whose long been obsessed with Myers’ case, even putting it before his own daughter. Myers is now on death row and the two kids with their own personal vendettas against the killer sneak in to watch his execution. But when things go awry and Myers escapes, the pair, along with their friends, find themselves in the firing line. From the sound(s) of things, it seems that this may be a direct sequel to the original in the same fashion as TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D --  so if that's the

Review: JURASSIC WORLD (2015)

Image
Set approximately twenty-two years after the events of JURASSIC PARK in 1993, JURASSIC WORLD takes a look at the park in full swing and open for business in 2015. The movie kicks off with a scene of two genetically modified hybrid dinosaurs being hatched, one of which stares at the other with a sinister glare -- a little foreshadowing, if you will.  The hybrids are the now-infamous Indominous Rex, or D-Rex as they're referred to.  We learn early on that they're part T-Rex, which should be pretty apparent by the name, but we're never told what they're spliced with until the climax when Chris Pratt's Owen Grady puts the pieces together. The basic story revolves around the escape of the D-Rex and trying to stop it before it reaches the main park.  Easier said that done.  The D-Rex is equipped with a few terrifying defense mechanisms, such as lowering its core body temperature, making it undetectable via thermal imaging and camouflaging itself in its surrounding

KING KONG Prequel, SKULL ISLAND, Should Shed Some Light On How Kong Became King

Image
"Kong: Skull Island" plot has been revealed to be a prequel to trace the origin of Kong before he became the ruler in the Skull Island but the more surprising matter to realize is that the movie is set in the original movie's future. How is that possible? The set is apparently going to take place in Detroit during the 1970s. The original King Kong period was timed in the 1930s in Peter Jackson's King Kong which was hugely successful in its release in 2005. Although there were King Kong movies in the eras of 1976 and 1986, a prequel that promises an "entirely new, distinct timeline" that still "honors the foundations of existing King Kong lore" brings avid viewers of the giant beast to anticipate the release of the movie. It has also been previously announced that Tom Hiddleston of the Avengers and Thor Series, Michael Keaton, and J.K. Simmons of Juno are the lead cast of the new King Kong. Jordan Vogt-Roberts (The Kings of Su

If Any Director Can Successfully Remake A Hitchcock Film, It's This Director

David Fincher  is no stranger to mystery, murder, and suspense. He is preparing to do the unthinkable, produce and direct a  Alfred Hitchcock  remake along with Gillian Flynn. Flynn is the author of Gone Girl, she also adapted the screenplay for the film. The duo, who successfully adapted the best-selling thriller  Gone Girl  in 2014, earning critical praise and Golden Globe nominations to boot, will be putting a modern spin on Hitchcock’s 1951 classic  Strangers on a Train .  Gone Girl  author  Gillian Flynn  is currently writing the film’s script. The movie, titled  Strangers , is set to take place on a plane instead of a train and stars Affleck as “a movie star in the middle of a campaign for an Oscar during awards season whose private plane breaks down and is given a ride to L.A. on another plane by a wealthy stranger.”  The original film features tennis pro Guy Haines ( Farley Granger ), who is stuck in a marriage he wants to get out of when he runs into psychopath Bruno

Looks Like James Bond 007 Has Found Its New Singer For SPECTRE

Image
Since last year, rumors had been swirling around Hollywood about whom would sing the title song for the upcoming 007 film, Spectre. Many singers names had been tossed in the EON/MGM hat, with two front runners. Lana Del Rey and Sam Smith. Well, it seems that we finally have resolution...kind of. The 23-year-old, who has just returned to performing live after recovering from vocal chord surgery, may join the ranks of Duran Duran, Madonna, Tina Turner, Paul McCartney, and of course Adele — who won an Oscar in 2013 for singing the theme song to  Skyfall  — as the voices introducing 007's highflying adventures. While this is still very much output from the rumor mill, it's looking more and more certain that Sam Smith will be singing the  Spectre  theme.   Spectre  has a November 6 release date and Smith will resume touring in July. Here's hoping Smith takes this opportunity as a license to thrill.

No Sequel For TOMORROWLAND

Image
Brad Bird is a heavyweight at Pixar Films, which happens to be owned by Disney. When Brad Bird pitches a film to Disney, the executives there are all ears, especially if it's a live action film. Before Tomorrowland, the only live action film that Brad Bird directed was Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. MI: Ghost Protocol was a slam dunk for Brad Bird, that film grossed $209,397,903 in North America and $485,315,477 in other countries, for a worldwide total of $694,713,380. So... When Mr. Bird pitched his original idea, and   with George Clooney as part of the package, Disney jumped at it. Given Bird's pretty much impeccable track record, Disney's "Tomorrowland"—on paper at least—seemed like a slam dunk. Of course, the results were much, much different. Following mostly stale reviews, lackluster box office both at home and abroad, the trade reports that Disney is set to lose between $120 and $140 million on their live action gamble. With a production c

A New HALLOWEEN Film Might Finally Go Into Production This Year For A 2016 Release

Image
I don't know about anyone else, but I'm ready for another Halloween film. As usual, talk and speculation of a new Halloween has been on form this year, since last year, with several sources saying various different things. But it looks like the movie could finally be making some headway into production… Last year on Oct 18th 2014, Halloween series producer Malek Akkad (Moustapha Akkad’s son) spoke about the next Halloween film. “It’s been a joy to work with so many creative people – ten films,” Akkad said of the franchise’s longevity. “We’re working on eleven as we speak. We’re working on a script right now. A new draft – perfect timing – is supposed to hit the day before Halloween. Hopefully my Halloween night reading will be a good read.” Akkad never gave any information on who is wrote the new script. Sources now (2015) claim that there is in fact a new script that has been written but is currently going through rewrites. With these Halloween films, it'

PITCH PERFECT 3 Has The Green Light

Image
With Pitch Perfect's massive $160.9 million in domestic box office (and counting), Universal and Gold Circle are moving ahead on a 3rd installment. Sources say negotiations have begun with Kay Cannon, who wrote the first two movies, to return to write the third. No news yet if co-star Elizabeth Banks, whom was also a producer on the last two films and director of the 2nd film, will return in any capacity.  Deals for a third movie will be costly because contracts will have to be renegotiated for the original cast.

DAREDEVIL Showrunner Has Been Hired By Warner Bros. To Draft New Script For AKIRA

Image
“Akira” is alive and well at Warner Bros., which has hired “Daredevil” writer Marco Ramirez to adapt the popular Japanese manga. Leonardo DiCaprio and his Appian Way banner are producing with Andrew Lazer (American Sniper) and his company Mad Chance. Warner Bros. executives Drew Crevello and Nik Mavinkurve will oversee the reconfigured project for the studio. Jaume Collet-Serra was set to direct “Akira” back in 2012 but Warner Bros. pulled the plug on the project due to issues surrounding the budget, script and casting. At the time, the studio had been in discussions with Garrett Hedlund, Kristen Stewart, Ken Watanabe and Helena Bonham Carter. The original “Akira” manga followed two brothers in rival biker gangs who clash when one of them begins abusing his new telekinetic powers. Ezra Miller had been eyed to play Hedlund’s brother, indicating that the studio was interested in the actor long before casting him in its comic book movie “The Flash.” Ramirez wrote many

FIFTY SHADES OF GREY Screenwriter Has Yet To Watch The Finished Film

Image
Fifty shades of Grey garnered $500 million worldwide and millions saw the erotic flick — however... its screenwriter, Kelly Marcel, did not watch it. Marcel gave her thoughts and opinions on the film’s production on the Bret Easton Ellis podcast, PodcastOne, this week, revealing that she still hasn’t watched the film that she wrote. Marcel said she has conflicting thoughts on the film’s events. “A lot of what happened on ‘Fifty Shades’ really broke my heart,” Marcel said. While talking about novelist E.L James, who wrote the book, Marcel said the two went back and forth on what to keep and what to nix. “She would always let me fight for things that I felt passionate about,” Marcel said. “And in the end, we ended up with a draft that was a halfway compromise. But she had still been very brave about what she had let go.” Several earlier reports, however, said director Sam Taylor-Johnson, whom will not return to direct the sequel, “Fifty Shades Darker,” has decided

Terry Gilliam Has A New Amazon Deal To Bring A Couple Unproduced Projects Back To Life

Image
It’s abundantly clear that Gilliam is still trying to mount his long-gestating production of “ The Man Who Killed Don Quixote .” “It’s my madness!” Gilliam laughed about the project that he cannot let go and which won’t let go of him. It’s had several delays over the last year few years, but if all goes according to plan, the movie will shoot in early 2016 with  Jack O’Connell  (“ Unbroken ”) and John Hurt (“ Only Lovers Left Alive ”) as the two leads. Gilliam wouldn’t comment about any other casting rumors or why the film has experienced so many false starts, but revealed ‘Quixote’ is part of his recently signed Amazon deal. According to Gilliam, Amazon’s approach will be a theatrical window and release followed by a streaming Amazon debut at home. “I’m intrigued by their way of doing it,” the director said, noting streaming services were a fair extension of home video. “They go into the cinemas first and then a month or two afterwards they go into streaming. And I think that’s

Sony May Produce BAD BOYS 3 With Director Joe Carnahan Taking Over For Michael Bay

Image
Sony Pictures may green light the long-in-development BAD BOYS 3 with Joe Carnahan in talks to do rewrites and direct an existing script by David Guggenheim. Sony hopes that Smith and Lawrence will return and are trying to get the project into production quickly. Sony wants BB3 to be the next movie for Smith to shoot after he’s finished with Warner Bros’  Suicide Squad.  The original  Bad Boys  was released in 1995 and it grossed a relatively tame $65 million. Bad Boys II  was released in 2003 and had a $46.5 million domestic opening and a worldwide gross of $273 million. Although Carnahan doesn’t have a deal in place as of yet, his action films like  Smokin’ Aces  and  The A-Team  show that he’s capable of following in Michael Bay’s footsteps to take over the franchise. Presumably Jerry Bruckheimer is still involved to produce along with Michael Bay as a producer. However... Neither Bruckheimer or Bay have yet to be mentioned to return to the franchise.
